Bradley International Airport to Expand Parking Offering

BDL is taking steps to add more parking.

Construction to expand Surface Lot 3, which is located on Schoephoester Road, is well underway and approaching its midpoint. When finished, the lot size will increase by approximately 14 acres – an expansion made possible by the recent relocation of rental car services and move of Postal Road. Once complete, the project will add more than 1,500 parking spaces and increase the airport’s overall parking by approximately twenty percent.

The development is a cornerstone of the airport’s ongoing parking strategy for its parking product, BDL sPARK. Other recent key initiatives include a comprehensive brand refresh, new digitized signage, and a multi-million-dollar parking guidance system in the garage. These investments focus on enhancing the passenger experience while maintaining daily rates competitive and lower than at most airports in the region.

“The Connecticut Airport Authority has intentionally prioritized parking strategy for Bradley International Airport, and that investment is making a meaningful impact,” said Michael W. Shea, Executive Director and CEO of the Connecticut Airport Authority. “We are seeing increased demand for our parking product, BDL sPARK. More importantly, the upgrades that have been undertaken improve the passenger journey while the resulting revenue growth helps us keep operating costs low for our airline partners.”

The construction project will be completed in the winter. It includes site demolition, drainage installation, extensive grading, new pavement, relocation of the entrance and exit plaza, addition of LED lighting, and installation of parking equipment.

The parking upgrades build on the airport’s expansion efforts, with a focus on modernizing facilities and enhancing customer experience. Most recently the CAA completed more than $250 million worth of terminal-wide projects at Bradley International Airport, including a new concourse, two new exit lanes, new passenger meet and greet locations, and an expanded TSA checkpoint. Passengers can also expect new dining options, including Urban Lodge Brewing Co, which has already opened, and Chick-fil-A, Sergio’s Go, and Sparrow Pizza, which will be unveiled in the coming months.

Bradley International Airport’s operations are self-funded and the revenue it generates supports ongoing upgrades for the convenience of passengers.
