Bradley International Airport Grows Its Accessibility Programs to Assist Passengers

January 14, 2026

Need some assistance traveling through Bradley International Airport (BDL)? If so, we’re here to help.  BDL’s accessibility programs ensure that everyone has a smooth journey.

Here are four programs designed to assist passengers depending on their specific travel needs.

Navigating the terminal with greater ease

BDL is now using GoodMaps, an indoor navigation and digital mapping app that’s designed to make the travel experience easier for passengers with certain disabilities. GoodMaps provides step-by-step and turn-by-turn directions within the terminal for people who are blind, deaf, neurodiverse, first-time flyers or those unfamiliar with the airport setting. The app offers audio and visual guidance, step-free routing and support in more than 18 languages. Users can download GoodMaps for free on IOS or Android. For more information, visit the GoodMaps website.

Helping individuals on the autism spectrum

BDL has obtained the highest level of autism-readiness through Autism Double-Checked to help accommodate the needs of travelers on the autism spectrum. Staff are specially trained to assist travelers by providing targeted support and minimizing stress throughout their travel journey. This certification offers individuals and families impacted by autism greater comfort and confidence, knowing the airport is equipped to understand their needs and respond thoughtfully to unique travel challenges.

Assistance for those with a disability that’s not visible to everyone

BDL partners with the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program to provide an added layer of assistance to travelers with hidden disabilities. Passengers can voluntarily wear a sunflower lanyard around their neck to signify to staff that they may need guidance, understanding or a helping hand due to the nature of their disability. The sunflower lanyards are complimentary and available at BDL’s information center in the lower level of the airport or at the airline ticket counters. For more information about the program, visit BDL’s website.

Comfort for travelers by BDL’s four-legged friends

BDL’s Bradley Buddies program was launched in August 2017 in partnership with Bright Spot Therapy Dogs, Inc. Currently, there are a total of 16 dogs and their handlers who volunteer their time at BDL. The therapy dogs can be found in the terminal on a weekly basis, providing comfort to passengers and making their travels more enjoyable – for people of all ages.
