Bradley International Airport Partners With Local Non-profit to Display Murals Inside Main Terminal
Bradley International Airport is the latest location in Connecticut to serve as a canvas for local artists
Bradley International Airport, in partnership with RiseUP for Arts, is now displaying five murals inside the main terminal, located post security. The installation of the murals is part of the BDL Art & Music Program, which features rotating exhibits, permanent displays and musical performances in the airport.
RiseUP for Arts, which is based in Hartford, is a community initiative that supports local artists and amplifies their voices through various forms of creative expression. Since 2015, RiseUP for Arts has completed 250 murals throughout Connecticut – with BDL being the most recent location.
The murals at BDL, which were installed this month, were painted by local artists Patrick Ganino, Micaela Levesque and Chris Gann.
“Being a long-time resident of Connecticut and a muralist in the state for over 25 years, it’s an honor to have a piece at the airport,” said Patrick Ganino. “Traveling the country painting murals puts me inside Bradley Airport more times than not. It will be nice to see a piece of my art in there for all to enjoy.”
The inspiration for the murals comes from landscapes and imagery that represents Connecticut and New England, some of which includes the shoreline, Old Wethersfield and Kent Falls State Park.
“I hope that travelers leave with a deeper appreciation and curiosity for what New England has to offer,” said Micaela Levesque. “My goal is to inspire more people to explore Connecticut’s natural beauty and rich history.”
“Having my artwork displayed in an open and public space like Bradley International Airport gives it a unique opportunity to reach a diverse audience,” explains Chris Gann. “This exposure allows my art to have a broader impact and potentially inspire and captivate people from all walks of life. It can spark conversations, evoke emotions, and create a sense of wonder and curiosity among viewers.”
