Bradley International Airport Offers Holiday Travel Tips

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. – December 17, 2021 – The Connecticut Airport Authority expects near pre-pandemic travel volumes to continue at Bradley International Airport into the new year.

The holiday travel period surrounding Christmas and New Year’s Day starts on Saturday, December 18th, and typically stretches across 18 days into the first week of January. The busiest travel times will be between 4 am – 7 am.

While the passenger volume is anticipated to be double of what the airport saw during the 2020 holiday season, it is yet to fully recover to the pre-pandemic volumes.

The airport community is ready to provide a safe and enjoyable travel experience for those traveling at Bradley International Airport during the holidays.

In the spirit of the season, the airport has also partnered with local talent, including solo performers as well as other Connecticut favorites, such as the UConn Hus-Keys A Capella Group, the East Granby High School choir, and the Suffield Middle School choir for festive musical performances.

Additionally, during the last week of December, the airport will have a special themed visit from the popular Bradley Buddies Therapy Dog team. Complimentary gift-wrapping for passengers will also be offered post-TSA screening on select days and times. A visit from Santa along with a photo opportunity is also planned.

Passengers are strongly encouraged to plan ahead; especially if it has been a while since they have traveled by air. To assist in the preparation process, the airport offers the following tips:

Arrive Early — The airport will be busy, especially during the early morning departures. Passengers are advised to arrive at the airline ticket counter at least 90 minutes prior to their flight’s departure.

Confirm Your Flight — Before you come to the airport, confirm your flight with your airline and consider checking in for your flight ahead of time.

Plan for Parking — There are many parking options at the airport. Parking closest to the terminal is very popular and will be in high demand.  Visit the airport’s website ahead of your arrival for the latest information on parking availability and follow directional signage at the airport to guide you to open lots.

Bring a Face Covering with You — While many establishments have loosened their face covering requirements, wearing a face covering is required and federally mandated at airports and onboard aircraft (regardless of vaccination status).

Follow TSA Screening Guidelines — Have your credentials ready and pack properly to help speed-up your screening process.

As part of the airport’s continued emphasis on everyone’s safety, the airport is continuing to offer COVID-19 testing on the arrivals level (baggage claim). Free COVID-19 vaccinations/boosters are also available during certain time periods. For additional information, passengers are encouraged to visit the airport’s website, bradleyairport.com
