Maintenance work will be performed on three sections of Perimeter Road

WINDSOR LOCKS, CONNECTICUT – October 7, 2009 – State Transportation Commissioner Joseph F. Marie announced today that a three-phase roadway reconstruction project will be performed by Rafferty Reclaiming and JSL Paving on portions of Perimeter Road, which surrounds Bradley International Airport (BDL), beginning on or about Monday, October 12, 2009. This $1.2 million maintenance work will be performed on three sections of Perimeter Road, totaling 2.3 miles, in the following order: Phase 1 – from the Connecticut Fire Academy to its intersection with Route 75 just north of the Airport’s Main Runway approach. Phase 2 – from its intersection with Schoephoester Road north to the vicinity of the Hertz Rental Car facility. Phase 3 – from the end of Phase 1 south to its intersection with Route 75 north of the Army National Guard facility. During Phases 1 and 3, Perimeter Road will be closed to all traffic from the Connecticut Fire Academy to its intersection with Route 75 north of the Army National Guard facility. Motorists who will be attempting to access various locations along Perimeter Road, including the New England Air Museum and the Connecticut Fire Academy, will be directed to utilize Route 20 to Bradley Park Road to Nicholson Road to Perimeter Road. Phase 2 is scheduled to be performed during nighttime hours and re-opened during daytime hours in order to accommodate Airport tenants and customers in this heavy traffic area. All three phases of this reconstruction project are scheduled to be completed by early December 2009. Traffic control barriers and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists around the work areas; emergency vehicles will have access to the roadway at all times.
